Open Call: ISSTA River Shannon Soundwalk @ ICMC 2022

*This open call has now closed – find out how to access the soundwalk here*

The River Shannon flows alongside the University of Limerick, the site of ICMC 2022, and anchors the conference theme “standing wave”. In an attempt to spatially connect the sonic practices of ICMC with the River Shannon and its surrounding environments, ISSTA are creating an interactive digital soundwalk that will embed music and sound on a mobile tour of the riverside.

ISSTA invites artists to populate this new digital soundwalk with audio artworks (music, sound art, radiophonic).  Submissions can be old or new, but should respond to and explore our theme: ‘spatial relationships – with (and within).

Submissions may take the form of musical compositions, performances, spoken word or experiments; and might reflect on topics related to the theme such as geography and travel, water and wayfinding, history and heritage, culture and family, storytelling and poetry, or imagined spaces and places. We are particularly interested in hearing from artists visiting Limerick for ICMC who wish to explore their connections with Ireland.

The selected audio works will be featured in an interactive geolocated exhibition using Echoes as part of the ICMC programme. The exhibition will be experienced as a mobile soundwalk along the banks of the River Shannon around the University of Limerick campus, the site of ICMC 2022.  The experience will offer ICMC delegates and other visitors an opportunity to explore the campus and the surrounding environments of the banks of the River Shannon.

The Irish Sound, Science and Technology Association (ISSTA) is happy to partner with ICMC 2022, to be held 3-9 July in Limerick, Ireland. ISSTA is an open, non-profit community of diverse musicians, researchers, makers, technologists, and artists.
